InsCer's research is published in an international magazine
A study done at InsCer has just been published in the journal International Psychogeriatrics a >, a reference in the field of neurogeriatrics. Entitled “Neurobiological findings associated with high cognitive performance in the elderly: a systematic review”, the article aims to make a comprehensive review of the literature on the so-called overweight (over 80 years old) to search for findings in this population, especially those related to neuroimaging and neuropsychology.
In this research, one of the results revealed is the lack of a quality study on the topic. "Many of the articles we found had methodological flaws," says Wyllians Vendramini Borelli, author of the study, which is coordinated by Dr. Prof. Jaderson Costa da Costa. Of the 4457 surveys evaluated, the InsCer researchers found only nine with the appropriate cutout for the overweight.
Based on the evaluation of these nine studies, another conclusion was reached, also published in this article: that the overweight have a brain mechanism that presents a structural and molecular preservation different from "normal" elderly people. “In natural aging, the brain has atrophy, with the loss of parts of its structure, causing the body to compensate in other ways. What we see is that in these overweight people there is no such loss, the brain keeps its structure preserved ”, evaluates Wyllians.
From this first study of the Superidosos project that was published internationally, others are being forwarded in order to identify the reasons of this cognitive performance in the overweight.
