Death Note of Dr. Ricardo Trentin

It is with immense regret that the Institute of the Brain of RS reports the death of Dr. Ricardo Trentin. The doctor suffered a sudden illness while working on duty in the Covid-19 wing of a Bento Gonçalves UPA, in the mountains of Rio Grande do Sul. Born in Santa Catarina, he lived in Farroupilha and worked in Bento Gonçalves.
Ricardo Trentin was a graduate of the School of Medicine at PUCRS and received a scientific initiation scholarship from InsCer, supervised by professors Alexandre Franco and Augusto Buchweitz. Between 2015 and 2017, he served as a director member of InsCer's Brain League.
Passionate about research as well as clinical practice, he received, in 2017, the Lundbeck Prize for Incentive to Research for his work Functional connectivity of the hippocampus and maintenance of memory in Superagers: preliminary results. Developed with researchers from the Brain Institute, the project studied the Superidosos, people who keep their cognitive functions preserved and have above average memory capacity for their age. The award was promoted by the Danish laboratory Lundbeck, in recognition of the four best scientific papers submitted to the World Congress on Brain, Behavior and Emotions (Brain Congress) 2017, where the award was given.
Friends say that Trentin was a tireless neuroscience enthusiast, with an easy smile and always ready for the challenges of medicine. The director of InsCer, Dr. Jaderson Costa da Costa, deeply regretted the life cut so early. “He was an idealistic, affective, competent, fighter young man with a lot of love for his neighbor and for the profession. It is an immeasurable loss. ”
