BraIns welcomes international representatives from German university
The Brain Institute of Rio Grande do Sul opened its doors to representatives of the Universität Bonn, in Germany. The Vice Chancellor of International Affairs, Stephan Conermann, the Dean for International Affairs, Rahel Hutgens, and Bonn University’s Coordiantor of Undergraduate Progams, Clara Kaminsky, learned about the structure and the research that is being carried out at BraIns.
As they their interest aroused, they questioned the relationship of the PUCRS’ School of Medicine with the Brain Institute and how faculty juggles their careers doctors and researchers. They compared PUCRS’ practices with those of the research institutes in Germany. At the end, they were surprised about the quality of the work that is being developed here.
After that, they visited other facilities on Campus. The Nuclear Medicine physician, Dr. Cristina Matushita, took them to the Molecular Imaging Center and explained how imaging exams are performed on patients. She also showed the equipment that is used by the researchers. Louise Hartmann, Coordinator of the Radiopharmaceuticals Production Center, explained how the radiopharmacy and the production of radiopharmaceuticals work. Patients are eventually given these drugs before exams. At the Pre-clinical Research Center, they had the chance to see animal brains being scanned. Gianina Venturin showed the facilities and research that is being developed there.
The three international visitors came to PUCRS for a week and had the opportunity to visit the Science and Technology Museum, TECNOPUC, the Main Library and Living 360 °. They also met with undergraduate and graduate students to share information about internationalization and research conducted in both institutions.
