Imaging exams and coronavirus: scientific production from PUCRS
PUCRS doctors, residents and students are among the authors of a series of scientific articles from the country published internationally with Covid-19 as a backdrop. Dr. Bruno Hochhegger, coordinator of the Image Center of the Instituto do Cebra do RS, points out that this is the largest national production in the area. Considering only the month of November, there were three: at Current Problems in Diagnostic Radiology, European Radiology and The British Journal of Radiology.
The CPDR released “Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) Pneumonia Presentations in Chest Computed Tomography: A Pictorial Review”, a review of Covid-19's most common imaging findings , done in partnership with an Italian and an American group, which aims to guide doctors on how to interpret Covid-19 imaging exams.
The one from European Radiology is called “Comparison of the computed tomography findings in COVID-19 and other viral pneumonia in immunocompetent adults: a systematic review and meta-analysis”, and makes a comparison among imaging findings in viral pneumonias generated by Covid-19 with other viral pneumonias unrelated to the coronavirus. The conclusion is that from an imaginary point of view, they are very similar.
Finally, the article in “The British Journal of Radiology called 'COVID-19 mimics on chest CT: a pictorial review and radiologic guide”, aims to summarize and illustrate possible etiologies that may have a similar pattern in Computed Tomography of the chest with Covid-19, since the image of the chest has been used as a complementary tool in the assessment of the coronavirus. However, Covid-19 findings in CT are also common to other pulmonary disorders and radiologists should be aware of these possible mimics of the entity.
