Study published in JAMA shows neurological manifestations in patients with COVID-19
In this new study published in JAMA, Mao and colleagues call attention to neurological manifestations in patients hospitalized with COVID-19 in China. Among the 214 patients positive for COVID-19, 78 (36.4%) had neurological repercussions, such as stroke (5 patients), disturbance of consciousness (13 patients) and skeletal muscle injury (17 patients). These manifestations occurred more frequently in critically ill patients. This study is relevant because it indicates that COVID-19 has an important relationship with the nervous system - until recently little described. In addition, this study warns of neurological symptoms in new cases of COVID-19.
