Expansion of InsCer: more research, more assistance, more innovation

Event on 9/11 marks the delivery of the structure that contains new exams and potentialization of the Institutogaúcho, internationally recognized as a reference in cutting edge research and assistance in the area .

On November 9, the date on which PUCRS celebrates 72 years, the Rio Grande do Sul Brain Institute (InsCer) inaugurates the expansion of its structure to offer more exams and services to the population and companies from all over the country , in addition to expanding the development of cutting edge research focusing on the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of brain diseases. Conducted by a renowned neuroscientist team, it is an initiative like eight years of activity that places the State with national and international reference on the topic.

The expansion of InsCerfaz is part of a set of initiatives that make up the PUCRS Health Campus, a place that was designed to bring together everything needed to take care of life in an integral way.

“With this movement, InsCerse consolidates itself as a pole of development, research and innovation in the search for solutions to diseases that affect the brain and oriented to the demands of the patient and society. We are a national and international reference that unites assistance, research and innovation in one place, a project idealized and developed in an integrated and multidisciplinary way. We are helping to build the future of health and science worldwide ”, points out the neurologist and neuroscientist Jaderson Costa da Costa, director of the Institute.

With two years of duration, the works started in October 2018 and tripled the current size structure, going from 2,549 to 9,335 square meters, contemplating what was planned in the original project. The total investment, with a contribution from the Financier of Studies and Projects (Finep), is R $ 66,837 million.

“It is not just an expansion of physical space, it represents a historic milestone for PUCRS, because through innovative initiatives that will be developed by InsCer, we will be designing the future with concrete and effective projects anchored in the present, making the place where we live better from care, from prevention, diagnosis, treatment and cutting-edge research in health ”, says the Rector of PUCRS, Br. Evilázio Teixeira. >

The inauguration event takes place from 10 am, with transmission via the PUCRS YouTube channel and can be followed < a href = "https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=APxkYvrhe8w&feature=youtu.be"> on this link .

Neuroscience to meet the demands of the population and contribute to the future of health

Unlike other institutes that exist in the country, the research developed at InsCer is focused on the patient, and the structure includes a clinical center, outpatient clinic and drug production. That is why the expansion is not just a delivery of structure but an investment to solve problems centered on people, with new technologies, greater possibilities to bring research professionals from the field of Medicine and, finally, to prevent and collaborate for treatments that can save lives.

The new structure has seven highly equipped laboratories that were built and represent an advance for transnational research, with spaces that favor interaction between scientists. These environments are dedicated exclusively to preclinical brain studies. The Clinical Research and Investigation Center, organized in nine environments, includes a differentiated space for polysomnography records and a modern magnetic resonance imaging simulator for the patient to become familiar with the procedure.

New exams and diagnostic and rehabilitation technology will be offered to the population, such as transcranial magnetic stimulation and neuropsychological and multidisciplinary assessments. The expansion of the Molecular Image Center with the acquisition of the state of the art in magnetic resonance will allow greater diagnostic precision and qualified functional studies offered to the community. The synthesis and production of new radiopharmaceuticals aimed at neurodegenerative and oncological diseases will be expanded and intensified.

The reception has also been renewed to offer greater comfort to customers. A bistro for food and a modern auditorium with 240 seats for use by the scientific, academic and population communities make up the structure.

Increased production of radiopharmaceuticals for companies

With the new structure, the Radiopharmaceutical Production Center has also expanded its development capacity. Now, the entire production process for these new substances will take place within InsCer, from basic research to discover new biomarkers, to application to patients.

Called Translational Research, this cycle will take place in a new and broad structure, fully focused on research and patient care. Radiopharmaceuticals are substances used in neurodegenerative and oncological diseases and have aroused great interest worldwide due to the significant occurrence in the population.

Investment

The expansion of InsCercusted a total of R $ 66,837 million. Of these, R $ 60,154 million comes from a loan from the Financier of Studies and Projects (Finep) - the first to be included in the financing line Critical Innovation of Finep , in 2018. The line is intended for proposals that express the need for technological development to meet national priorities of strategic interest. The loan was endorsed and guaranteed by the Regional Development Bank of the Far South (BRDE). The other R $ 6,683 million corresponds to PUCRS, equivalent to 10% of the total amount.

Immersion Room

InsCer's Immersion Room is also scheduled to launch on 9/11. A space that will allow visitors to take a virtual tour through the restricted areas of the Institute and learn a little more about the history of InsCer through an interactive timeline.

In addition, this space will be used by researchers, who are also teachers, for virtual classes in an environment where it is possible to learn more about InsCer and still teach the content of the discipline.

The PUCRS Health Campus

Given the breadth that the concept of longevity has been gaining in science with the increase in life expectancy worldwide, the PUCRS Health Campus was designed not only to promote live more , but to ensure live well. A complete place for the population of Rio Grande do Sul and Brazil to achieve longevity with health and autonomy.

The delivery of the expansion of InsCer is part of a non-initiative that has an unprecedented format in the country and will bring together education, research, innovation and assistance to people. The integrated and multidisciplinary model was designed to meet the movement of comprehensive care with life and health promotion in all directions, connecting the activities of Parque Esportivo , from Rio Grande do Sul Brain Institute (InsCer) , from Centro Clínico , from Rehabilitation Center , from Hospital São Lucas da PUCRS (HSL) , from Medicina Schools and Health and Life Sciences and innovation initiatives such as BioHub , a Tecnopucque enterprise that operates in the generation of innovative businesses in the life sciences.

“It is a change of model, of paradigm, with integration between all units and facilitated circulation”, says the director of InsCer < / em>, Jaderson Costa da Costa.

The rector of PUCRS, IrmãoEvilázioTeixeira, points out that from end to end, in each of the undertakings, the intention of the university is to make people wake up to the importance of taking care of health and can count on the institution to learn how to do this and to facilitate these processes with a complete structure.

“With the mission of transforming health through innovation, production and dissemination of knowledge, we want it to be a delivery for people, a space that facilitates their role in caring for themselves and with the others. May it be a place for promoting life in all its dimensions ”, he highlights.

Among the main advantages of this model, the rector points out the fact that it is an innovation environment linked to the best Science and Technology Park in the country according to the National Association of Entities Promoting Innovative Enterprises (Anprotec), a hospital that is national reference in assistance, the courses of Medicine, Dentistry and Psychology that are among the best in Brazil and, especially, a clinical, technical and teaching staff of high quality and proven competence.
